Our Motto: Poperantes In Adventum Dei

Hasten the Day!

Within every great and daring adventure,
Every bold human endeavor,
Every rise to intense sacrifice,
There is a cause that grips the Heart.

Come hasten the Day!
Within every act of sincere compassion,
Every expression of genuine kindness,
Every sensitive gesture of mercy,
There is a heart that feels His great Love.

Let's hasten the Day!
Within every grand moment of triumph,
Every shout of victory we sing,
Every cheer for the defeat of evil,
Hear an ovation for the return of the King.

Yes! Hasten the Day!
Within every soul lost and alone,
Every teardrop filled with deep grief,
Every pit of agony and despair,
There is a hope for timely Relief.

Please hasten the Day!
God is not slow as some regard slowness.
He waits for his children to shoulder His cause.
He stands in the threshold and looks for His kingdom
to share His compassion and deliver his Love.

God is not slow as some count slowness.
He looks to the body to reach for the lost,
to care for the broken and lonely and hurting,
to stand for the right and carry the cross.

The more we seek Jesus and make him our purpose
the greater our cause, the deeper our care.
The sooner we join Him in holy adventure,
the quicker he moves through the halls of despair.

The challenge before us: to awaken the giant,
to pick up our armor and mount the great steed.
Return to the battle the victory awaits us.
Its within our own hands - the tempo, the speed.

Now He awaits us. He looks to his children
to follow him closely and enter the fray,
to do what is holy, to look for his coming,
to pick up the tempo
and hasten the Day!

Maranatha!

With this singularly important observation in mind, we, who seek to serve in the advancement of the kingdom have a very uniting and extremely powerful objective before us that when we can commit ourselves fully to it, we find ourselves in complete partnership with our Almighty God as we press forward in our efforts to develop our ministry and mission here as Summit Christian College.

This objective is well encapsulated in Latin: “Properantes in Adventum Dei “, or “Hasten the Day of God.” This "motto" occurs in the second letter of Peter, chapter three, verse twelve and follows a rather hair-raising description of what the preceding “Day of the Lord” is going to be like in 2 Peter 3:10 - not good for those not ready. But for those who are ready that day ushers in “The day of God” (verse 12) in which we, who belong to Him, will enjoy life with God for eternity.

It is this reality of eternity and the necessity for all to prepare for it and participate in ushering it in, which brings the work of Summit Christian College into its sharpest focus.

Author and scholar John MacArthur pointed out in his article, Living In Anticipation of Christ's Return put it this way, “If Jesus is coming to reward us, if Jesus is coming to take us to be with Himself, if Jesus is coming to build for us a new heaven and a new earth, if Jesus is coming to deliver us from judgment and to usher us into the great eternal day of God, if Jesus is coming to take us into the kingdom of eternal righteousness, that ought to impact our lives. In other words, if we have been made for that, created for that, redeemed for that, sanctified for that, then we ought to begin to live in the light of that and for that.”

This is what Peter is saying.

Fellow colleagues, members of the Board of Trustees and friends of Summit Christian College, this is our work! We are here to “Hasten the day ”. This is and must always be, our first order of business. To set this more firmly in stone let us seize upon this phrase and make it our motto. A motto of this magnitude shall invigorate the student body and clarify who we are as a college and why we do, and must do, what we have been called into existence to do. A motto such as this supports our unity with the church, identifies our common purpose and recognizes SCC’s vital role within this purpose.

Directly connected to this motto is the admonition to all who will abide by it, to live holy and Godly lives; Holy in action and Godly in attitude, both of which are necessary and vital for success in ministry.
